7 Nov 2012

Got in a good set today.  I was 9 out of 13 on my spare shooting.  (2 splits, chopped the 3-6 and just plain old missed the attempt at the 4-7. I was also 3 out of 3 on covering the 10 pin.) I had a 57% strike percentage and my 1st roll avg was 9.18. These are all improvements for me. One change I did make was reducing my revs on the 1st ball and moving outside. My games were 187, 197 and a 245 for a 629 series.

Practice - 31 Oct 12

Well, got some practice in today. I had only been practcing once a week due to needing a week off for my shoulder to recover.  This is the 1st week that my shoulder feels fine after bowling, so I might try to get some more practice in on Friday.  I had my high series last week with my 1st 600 series since I started bowling again, and I had my low series today with a 498.  It was still a good practice session though.  I had a hard time partly due to the lanes being pretty dry (need to get me a plastic ball).  My spare shooting was better today and only missed one single pin spare. I have let people know that I am interested in bowling league again, but I haven't had any offers yet.

Back to bowling right handed

Well, I haven't picked up a bowling ball in almost 5 months due to rotator cuff problems in my right shoulder. Prior to that, I switched to bowling left handed due to issues with my back. When I switched to bowling left handed, I intended on making it a permanent change. With that being said, I have practiced bowling right handed twice in the last 2 weeks, and have done ok. (It has been almost 2 years since I bowled right handed.)

I definitely don't have the power I used to have, but I am pleased with how I have started out. Until my shoulder gets stronger, I have to give my shoulder a couple of days off after rolling a 3 game set.

PBA Experience League, week 1

Well, I started a PBA Experience league last week.  The league rewards in the form of credits for the pro-shop to allow students to bowl.  With that being said, I think there was only one other bowler there that wasn't a student, and I was 2 to 3 times as old as all of the other bowlers.  Felt a little out of place.

We bowled on the Scorpion pattern, and I was surprised that I was able to play the 1st arrow.  I rolled a 167, 147 and a 166 for a 480 series.  I ended up the 1st week with a 160 average which isn't too bad since my ending average for leagues this year was a 173.  However, I think my low scores were due to my continued timing issues that the pattern.  I am constantly getting to the line too quick and I am constantly pulling the ball (and I am not sure how to fix it).  Hope to bowl better next week.

Base Championships

Bowled in the base championships a couple of nights ago. Didn't make the cut but I did ok. I had problems with my right shoulder (rotator cuff) and didn't bowl for about 3 weeks. I was able to get a couple of practice sessions in, and like I said, I did ok.

It was a handicap tournament, and I had a 173 average (6 games across 12 lanes). 1st game was great (222). Had an open in the 1st game, and then I was able to string some strikes. 2nd game rolled a 177; missed a couple of makeable spares, and that cost me. On the 3rd game I rolled a 122, it seemed like the lanes were flooded, and I didn't make the proper adjustments. The last 3 games, I didn't get too many strikes, but my spare shooting was better. The last 3 games were 209, 192 and 181 and a 184 average for the night.

Had a good showing in the Missouri State Tournament (team event). We are currently in 6th place with 2 more weekends left to the tournament (team name is "Pindowners"). (http://www.mousbc.org/standingsopen2012results-event.php?eventCategory=1&Search=Search)

This was my 1st full year bowling left handed and I finished my leagues with a 170 and a 173 average. I felt like I was turning the corner on my spare shooting at the end of the season, and really felt like my scores were starting to pick up. Now I am having problems with my right rotator cuff in my right shoulder, so I haven't been able to practice in a couple of weeks and I don't know if I will be able to bowl over the summer.

1st success changing speeds since switching to the left hand

My league last night was a struggle from the beginning.  I started out using my Hammer Toxic and it was rather inconsistent.  One time it would hook, and the next time it wouldn't.  Half was through the 1st game I decided to move left (I am left handed) and switch to my plastic ball.  It took me a couple of frames to get lined up, and I ended up rolling a 140.  After switching to my plastic ball at the end of the 1st game, I ended up rolling a 194 the 2nd game.  I had one open which was a 5-7 split and rolled 6 strikes (only had one double though).  At the end of the 2nd game, my ball was coming in high, and I was having to move right every couple of frames.  For the 3rd game, I moved left a couple of boards, moved back on the approach and lowered the starting position of my ball to increase the speed of my ball.  Even though I was rolling the ball faster, I had to concentrate on not rushing my feet.  I ended up rolling a 234 for the last game with 7 strikes (a double and a 5 bagger).

1/5/2011

Did better last night than I have done the last couple of weeks. Even though I had a total of 6 opens, my spare shooting was better (9 out of 15 with 2 splits). I had a total of 19 strikes, but I was only able to string them in the 2nd game. I rolled a 172, 232, 172 for a 576 series, and brought my average back up to a 180.
