Had a rough start on my mixed league with 3 opens in the 1st 5 frames (64 in the 5th frame). Switched to my Blue Hammer in the 7th frame and finished with a 6 bagger for a 204. Ended up rolling a 204, 214, 216 for a 634 series. Pretty much kept the same line the rest of the night (did make a 2:1 move to the inside in the 6th frame of the 2nd game). I missed one 10 pin spare in both the 2nd and 3rd games.

Rolled a 152, 209, 204 for a 565 series in my Men's league. My spare shooting killed me. I had a total of 12 opens (5 splits and 1 wash out).

I started out at 34 on the approach and 17 at the arrows with my Blue Hammer. If I didn't keep my speed up, I was going through the nose. I should have made the move earlier, but at the end of the game made a 2:1 move to the left (38 on the approach and 18 at the arrows).

After making the move, things improved. I continued to make 2:1 moves to the left as my ball started to come in high on the head pin. By the end of the night, I was at 40 on the approach and 20 at the arrows.

Rolled an 174, 191, 195 for a 560 series in the St Louis USBC Bowl for the cure tournament. It was the 1st time that I had bowled at Tropicana Lanes. Took me half of the 1st game to figure out how to attack the lanes. I ended up going with my 15 lb Blue Hammer with a dull surface. I started out at 38 at the line and targeting 16 at the arrows. When my ball started coming in light, I tried to make a parallel adjustment to the right and figured out that I should be making 2:1 moves instead.

My carry was not good. I left a lot of single pins, and I covered 11 out of 12 of them. I was 15 out of 20 on spares with 2 splits. Even though my strike percentage was low, my 1st ball average was over 9 (9.03).

Rolled a 174, 168, 201 for a 543 series on my mixed league. Was never able to find a consistent path to the pocket. However, in hind sight, I never did try my blue hammer (which I probably should have). As far as spare shooting goes., I covered 10 out of 17 (4 were splits) and I didn't miss any single pin spares.

I did start out with my polished Maxim standing on 26 and targeting 13 at the arrows, and in the 2nd half of the game, I made a 1:1 move to the right. Was able to get to the pocket, but couldn't carry.

The 2nd game, I switched to my dull Maxim. Felt like that was a path to the pocket. However, I had 2 splits and wiffed on a 2-4 spare attempt.

In the 3rd game, the right lane was breaking down and the left lane was getting more carry down. (Was making moves in opposite directions.) The 3rd game was the only one I hit my average (200).

Rolled above average (197) but felt like it was a struggle (every spare is an adventure). 211, 181, 225 for a 617 series.

Felt like we got fewer shots than normal in warm up. Didn't attempt to roll my strike release in warm ups and felt like I was pulling my spare shots.

1st game - Started out standing on 24 and targeting 12 at the arrows (Blue Maxim). Started out with the front 5 strikes and then missed 3 makeable spares (10, 3-6-9-10, 2-4-5). I doubled in the 10th for a 211.

2nd game - Was only able to manage 2 strikes for the game. Lanes were transitioning and the left lane seemed to be tighter that the right lane. Had one split and covered the remaining spares for a 181.

3rd game - left a 4-6 split in the 2nd frame. After that I was at 28 on the approach and 15 at the arrows (28/15) on both lanes. After the 5th frame (was coming in high) I made a 1:1 move to the left (29/16) on both lanes. After covering 2 single pin spares, I finished off with a 5 bagger for a 225.

Note: I have made the following changes in my game.
- Gone down in weight (14 lb)
- Focusing on non-bowling hand
- Keep my feet slow
- Trying to square my shoulders up more before I release the ball

I haven't posted to this blog in 5 years. (Was posting directly to my Google+ account. But it is shutting down in April.) Anyway, I plan to post my progress in my leagues and tournaments here (good or bad).

Also, check out the bowling group on MeWe (https://mewe.com/join/bowling). Lots of good articles and videos (along with sharing accomplishments and struggles on the lanes).

Pin Downers, Week 19 - #bowling_scores

Bowled much better tonight.  216, 203, 194 for a 613 series.  Nothing off the charts, but I was consistent.  I did make some changes to my game after my 439 series last night.  I had bought new (lighter) equipment, due to problems with my shoulder.  But I would struggle, and go back to my old equipment.  I decided that I was not going to give my self that option.  I only took my Hammer Wrench, New Blue Hammer and Maxim (all 14 lb equipment).  I started out with my Wrench, standing on the middle dot and targeting the 1st arrow.  My ball was coming in nice when I stayed down with my shot and hit the mark.  As the lanes broke down, I would move back on the lane to pick up the ball speed.  In the 2nd game, I moved back up to the front set of dots, switched to my blue hammer and moved 2 boards to the right.  Again, when I rolled a good shot I was rewarded with pretty good carry.  I am confident that I will do a lot better than a 439 on my Wed night next week.
